Additional Expert Advisers Join the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation

The Investigation is pleased to confirm the appointment of four additional Expert Advisers:

Derin Webb is a midwife lead for cultural safety and ethnic minority engagement in maternity care in Manchester. With a background in law, human rights, community development and advocacy, she brings deep insight into challenges faced by underrepresented communities and champions birthing rights and choice in birth.

Huda Mohamed MBE is a specialist midwife at Whittington Health NHS Trust. She is a nationally respected expert in FGM, leading efforts to improve care pathways, raise awareness, and support affected women through culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches.

Dr Rachel Bartlett is a consultant Anaesthetist at St Mary’s Hospital in Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust. She has been a consultant anaesthetist since 2013 and has a keen interest in education, having been a Unit of Training Lead for 5 years and Director of Medical Education for 6 1/2 years. She works mainly within emergency, trauma and obstetric anaesthesia.

Dr Tom McEwan has been a NMC registered midwife since 1999. His years of experience as a midwife, advanced practitioner in neonatal nursing, academic, educator, researcher and professional leader have equipped him with expert knowledge of the midwifery, maternity and neonatal care systems.

The Investigation is already benefiting from the input of experts in midwifery, obstetrics, neonatal care, investigations and public health. The new advisers provide specialist knowledge and expertise on neonatal care, women’s health, including female genital mutilation (FGM), and ethnic minority engagement. An anaesthetist has been appointed in recognition of the high levels of caesarean sections undertaken across the maternity system.

The Investigation would like to thank families who have provided valuable input into the process of recruiting the new Expert Advisers.
